I hated reading the books for school, but spent a lot of time reading because of childhood illnesses and the books became my friends, so, school did nothing to induce me to read, but I still discovered it anyway :-)
SherryGLoaghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16934189163201067429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2090034241516458003.post-76524131954723333872013-03-10T23:47:33.178-05:002013-03-10T23:47:33.178-05:00In school, I was terrible about reading those assi...In school, I was terrible about reading those assigned texts. Oh, I managed to wade thru most of them ... but some got the Cliff Notes treatment. And a few got the 'abridged' version treatment.
One of them -- if I recall correctly -- I sloughed off by re-reading the Classics Illustrated COMIC BOOK.
So, yeah, I was a lousy reader in that regard. But if I was interested in the book or author, I read every word.
As I matured a bit, I was better also, though I never did finish Moby Dick in college. I have always been an ...Wow, very well said, J.F.

I have always been an avid reader (yeah, I'm one of those), but I've also always read the books I wanted to read. There are tons of bestseller or "pop" favorites that folks say: "Oh, you just have to read this" or "What do you mean you never read XXXX? (usually followed by a gasp). I usually just shrug and tell them the book just didn't interest me and there are so many others that do.

So hurrah to you for standing up and admitting your feelings. Yet I've always been a voracious reader of the books I want to read and I'm an author. I learned a while ago that I will never be able to say, "I read 15 novels a month and write 5,000 words a day." Who needs the impressive numbers? I do my best, and that's good enough for me, even if it is slower than others. :)E.A. But it is still easy to feel inadequate compared to my peers because I'm not reading "enough" books or finishing them fast enough, lol. I psych myself out I guess. For example, my husband reads "game of the Thrones" books in about three days. The same book will take me about 3 months. It's easy to let me talk myself into thinking I'm stupid for that.Cloud Riserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11322007537542556461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2090034241516458003.post-71825541191290783982013-03-04T11:38:03.317-06:002013-03-04T11:38:03.317-06:00I've always loved to read, but I totally under...I've always loved to read, but I totally understand -- I love to read what I WANT, and I always felt guilty being bored out of my mind when I read classics!Wendy Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10326816435723118863noreply@blogger.com
