I recently had a chat with Rachel and here's what she had to say...
TBB: Welcome to the Book Boost, Rachel. Please share with us your latest news.
RB: My latest news is the release of my sixth novel, Paying The Piper. It is a contemporary romance set in South West England, against the backdrop of nightclubs and pubs. It’s a darker, grittier read than my other books but hope my readers enjoy it! I loved writing it. Especially the comedy scenes…
TBB: I really love the sound of this one. I'm intrigued already. Could you share the blurb with us?
RB:
Nightclub manager, Grace Butler is on a mission to buy the pub where her mother’s ashes are scattered – except the vendor wants to sell to anyone but her. And the vendor happens to be her father…with a secret Grace will do anything to uncover.
Social worker and all-round good guy, Jimmy Betts needs cash to buy a house for three special kids before their care home closes. In a desperate bid for cash, he agrees to a one-time ‘job’ for bad-man Karl Butler. But in a sudden turn of events, Jimmy finds himself employed by Karl’s beautiful, funny and incredibly sexy daughter, Grace.
Their lives are so different except for one unifying thread – they are both trying to escape the binds of their tyrannical fathers. But is the key to their liberty each other?
TBB: I'm totally hooked now. This is definitely going on my TBR list. Most writers are also avid readers, what are you reading right now?
RB: I usually have more than one book on the go and I currently have two – I am reading Highland Arms by Cathie Dunn, a Scottish historical romance where I am more than a little in lust with the hero. And the other is, Iris & Ruby by Rosie Thomas which is fabulously atmospheric, set in Egypt and about three generations of women in the same family. Highly recommended.
TBB: Nice choices. Since this is your sixth novel, what has been your biggest reward as an author thus far in your career?
RB: I feel as though I have had many rewards thus far – each book contract is a reward, each new cover, each new idea, lol! But the latest reward that made me burst into tears was the email from my now agent saying she’d like to represent me. It made me the happiest woman alive, believe me!
TBB: Oh, this is so great, Rachel. Big Congrats! There's nothing like having another industry professional willing to back your work. But now that you're a successful author...can you tell us...as a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
RB: A writer – honestly! When I was ten or eleven I wanted to be journalist but as I got older, I knew I wanted to write novels. Of course, real life took over and I worked in a bank for ten years, got married and had children. But once they were both at school full-time I started writing in earnest and my first book was contracted a year later.
TBB: That is great that your dreams are coming true. Well done. Now, let's have a little fun...what is your favorite breakfast food?
RB: Bacon muffins at the weekend and Marmite on toast in the week – not sure if you guys have Marmite in the US? You either love it or hate it!
TBB: Now, bacon muffins I'm totally in agreement with but the Marmite---eeh gads! I had a tiny bit when I was visiting Ireland and it is not up my alley at all. And, no, we don't really have it here in the States. But I did fall in love with those grilled tomatoes they served over there. Now I'm getting hungry. Let's move on to music, what song lyric gets stuck in your head most often?
RB: It is usually a Michael Buble song because my husband is constantly playing him!
TBB: Oh, I like his stuff too. I like the song "Sway". On the less fun side, what is your biggest pet peeve?
RB: Selfishness & ill-treatment of others – I get more than a little angry if I see any of that going on, lol!
TBB: Well that just goes to show how swell you are...nice pet peeve to have. Thanks for joining us today and best of luck with the newest release!

Ooo - Marmite! Yummy!! Toast with butter and Marmite are my comfort food. I even took a jar on my OE as I was worried I wouldn't be able to buy it overseas. The people around me went "eww - thats a YEAST spread!" I got them to try it, but they remained revolted LOL.
My youngest child is almost three, so a couple of years yet before I can really dig in with my writing like you - but I hope to be as prolific too! Congratulations on your awesome books - and I'm not surprised at all you landed your agent. They obviously spotted your talent too : )
Why do you write?
Thanks for dropping by everyone - sorry I missed you yesterday, it's the time differences! Lovely to see you here and thanks for all your kind comments about my writing and landing an agent. i am very excited about the future!

I'm always curious as to what writers read in their spare time (is there such a thing?) and Cathie Dunn is a new author to me as well as Rachel herself. Will have to check out these books and keep padding my TBR pile.
