Insulin is NOT a Cure! Please help us find one.

Win 2 Dozen Autographed Books
and Help find a Cure 4 Diabetes!

For those of you in the publishing industry, you are probably already aware of the Annual Diabetes Auction hosted by romance author, Brenda Novak.  But if you haven't heard of it--now is the time you should check it out.  Trust me, you won't regret it!

I first stumbled upon the auction in 2005, only 2 years after my own toddler was diagnosed with this confusing & terrifying childhood disease.  Finding the auction (and a friend in Brenda) was like a Godsend for me.  I was an aspiring author and a struggling single mother facing the biggest challenge of my life.

This auction brought fun, industry contacts, and an opportunity to help raise money for a cure.  What more could you ask for?

Since that year, I've become an avid supporter of the auction in both bidding (there are just so many good things) and in donations.  In fact, I'm giving away 2 big items this year and I'll be featuring them here on the blog each Tuesday this month.  I'll also be hosting a special interview with my daughter Brooke who is now 11 years old.  She'll tell us what it is like to have diabetes as a child and what a cure would mean in her life.

Be sure to check in each Tuesday this month for a special Diabetes Auction feature day and I hope you'll take the time to check out all the amazing opportunities and items available at Brenda's auction.

You can find the auction here:

Great strides are being made in the fields of research.  New (less invasive) methods of blood sugar testing, insulin administration, and insulin producing cell transplants are all being developed.  We just need to find the right fix for all the children who suffer with this malady each day.

If you don't participate in the auction this month, you can always give a donation to either of these great organizations at any time:

or

In fact, several years ago, my father asked our family not to give him any more gifts for birthdays, Christmas, or even Father's Day.  He wants all his gifts to go to donations for a cure.  He loves his granddaughter so much and a cure would be the greatest gift of all.

What an inspiration for us!

Contest Time:

Lastly, for those of you who stop by the Book Boost this month on any Tuesday and let me know that you've bid on an item, won an item, donated an item or otherwise supported our search for a cure, your name will be entered into a drawing for a huge collection of autographed romance novels from my personal collection.

This lot includes autographed books from authors such as Lori Wilde, Vicki Lewis Thompson, Sara Paretsky and many more!  All new, all autographed and all just for you.

Contest runs from May 1st through May 31st.  Winner announced in early June here at the blog.  You must post a comment on any Tuesday's post during the month of May to enter.  Be sure to leave your contact information so we can reach you if your name is chosen as the winner.

See you next Tuesday and happy Bidding!

I'm on the other side of your coin! I'm the daughter diagnosed as a diabetic when I was 12. I feel for the parents...and even as a diabetic, I hope to never be one of a diabetic. I think there's more stress for you than there will be for your toddler. I hope that's encouraging for you because what I mean is...your toddler has everything going for him/her! Life is so full, even for a diabetic.

I love hearing about Brenda's auction. It's a great cause.

This is an amazing cause and one I give to every year. We have adult onset diabetes in our family and I know what a struggle it is for an adult. I'm in awe at your daughters strength and your family's ability to deal with this every day. Great post and I plan on helping any way I can.
Thanks
Lynda

Lynda,

Thank you! I'm in awe of her as well. She doesn't let diabetes keep her down. If she wants something--she goes for it. Wonderful to meet you here at the blog and I look forward to seeing you more this month.

Best,

I love how this cause is rallying so many people together for a great cause. I have heard about Brenda's For the Cure of Diabetes and how much it has raised to help fund research. On her site she highlights some pretty scary numbers but more than that she gives hope for people touched by it. Thanks for bringing this cause to light. I can see how Brenda's cause has helped you, and in so many ways. One was to find a support network and information to sort your confusion and decide how to deal. I'm looking forward to Brooke's post and she sounds like a trooper.

My MIL developed diabetes and several of my DH's older siblings struggle with the disease. God bless you and your daughter. I'm off to tweet this link, so more will know how they can help.

I'm one of Brenda's volunteers working on the auction and I wanted to thank you for helping us in getting the word out on the auction. We appreciate your participation with your incredible donations. I will be starting a daily interactive blog for shoppers and donors to ask questions or comment on the auction I will provide the link once everything is finalized. Thank you again. Danita

Kerri,

I am in the process of getting the first post ready to share and set up a chat session. I would like to share a link with you and your followers which goes to a store that has items that can be purchased and the proceeds will go towards the auction Brenda Novak's Cafe Press Store For Additional Items To Support The Cause. We have also just spotlighted some more items on the auction home page http://brendanovak.auctionanything.com/Home.taf.

Brenda has decided to put some of the money she normally dedicates to promoting a new book toward her Annual Online Auction for Diabetes Research, so this means great things for those of us who chomp at the bit for her next new book . . .
Anyone who pre-orders WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES at Amazon or Barnes and Noble BEFORE the end of this month will be entered into Brenda’s Fan Club, which gives you access to the password-protected part of her website and the contests and goodies she makes available there. Plus, you will receive a $10 GIFT CERTIFICATE you can use at the auction toward anything you want!
