TBB: Where are you from?

HL: I have lived in the UK in a small village in England since my marriage, but I’m really Welsh and was born and lived most of my life in beautiful rural West Wales, near the mountains and sea. I miss Wales very much and hope to return eventually. It's wonderful landscapes, myths and legends have inspired much if my writing.

TBB: What are your current projects?

HL: I’m currently working on the third story in the ‘Starquest’ series. Starquest started out as a short story, but I became fond of my heroine and she told me there was more to her tale. So the short story became a novel. Then Tamarith, from Starquest said ‘What about me?’ so I wrote a sequel. Now another character (Kerry Marchant) demands that his story be told. So my short story is becoming a trilogy! This novel introduces a new female character and features a few of the characters from Starquest. I always felt Kerry was rather short-changed in Starquest, so this new story, tentatively entitled 'Beloved Enemy' will attempt to redress the balance.

TBB: What do you like to do when you're not writing?

HL: Reading (Of course) My main interest apart from books and writing is animals. I am a keen horse lover and have a black Welsh Cob called Harri and a paint Quarter Horse Welsh mare called Flying T’pau. I’ve been mad about horses for as long as I can remember, and they tend to feaure in most of my stories. Although I learned to ride English style, I much prefer the Western style of riding. T’pau has never been ridden any other way and Harri took to a Western saddle and the Western way very happily. Unfortunately we don’t have our own land and the horses live some distance away, so traveling to them to feed them, and care for them takes up a lot of time. I also have a rescued dog, Bouncer and I love taking him for long walks. I enjoy pottering around my garden when I have time, I love to plant things and watch them grow.

TBB: What was your first reaction when you found out that you were going to be published?

HL: You mean after I came down off the ceiling? LOL. It was fantastic. I ‘d just come home from hospital after a major operation. Of course I wasn’t allowed near a computer, but my husband told me there was an email from the publisher I’d submitted Starquest to, ‘The Wild Rose Press’. I asked him to read it to me - he went and printed off every single page of the Contract, including the instructions before he actually got around to telling me the lovely editor had accepted it for publication. The suspense nearly killed me and I didn’t know whether to hug him or throw my crutches at him! It was the best coming home present I could have had.

TBB: Do you have a message for your readers?

HL: I'd just like to thank everyone who is kind enough to buy my books. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them. Without readers writers would still write - it's what we do - but it there is nothing more satisfying than being able to share something we've poured our heart and soul into, and know that another person has enjoyed our work.The support and friendship of readers and fellow writers is what makes writing so worth while.

Blurb:

Excerpt:

Tamarith stopped and gazed for a moment across the water. The G-type sun, now fully risen, caused the lake to shimmer like a veil of golden silk, with scarcely a ripple disturbing its calm. The pastel-colored walls of the graceful buildings on the shore reflected the glow of both suns. In the distance, the mountains encircling the settlement reached high into the cerulean sky. The swirling mist that hid their summits was as much a part of Niflheim as the earth upon which she and Vidarh stood.

She sensed his mind discreetly touch hers and realized he was staring at her keenly. She turned back to face him, returning his questioning glance and studying him in turn. Taller than average, and broad-shouldered, today he wore a sleeveless, belted leather shirt over thick breeches, with long, icecat-wool lined boots. His upper arms were well muscled, his skin tanned as if he were used to working outdoors. His curly, dark auburn hair, kept away from his face with a plain leather band, reached almost to his shoulders. It caught the sun’s rays and gleamed like the polished dark red wood of the trees that flanked the feet of the mountains.

She took in his clear, hazel eyes, with their friendly twinkle, the long, straight nose, strong jaw line and smiling mouth. He would have been fighting off the local unattached young women if the situation they found themselves in were not so serious. Not that she was particularly interested in his looks, or those of any other man, for that matter.

No, something else about Vidarh of Ragnak excited her curiosity.
