Day 23: Read1K Write1K Challenge Presses On

At this Point in the Challenge,
Press Any Key on Day #23!

"No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader.
No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader."
--Robert Frost

***OUR THIRD PRIZE WINNER ANNOUNCED BELOW!***

***UPDATED***

What I'm writing?

Book: The Cable
Starting Point: Page 101
Today's total word count: 948

What I'm reading?

Book:  Hot Wheels and High Heels by Jane Graves
Starting Point: Beginning
2 Chapters Completed: No
Today's Book Note: Too many editing projects

Kerri's Progress Notes:

Back at it today with edits.  Assigned 2 new manuscripts and I'm finishing up a third so busy busy busy!

Hard to find time (or desire) to write, but must push through and as it says above...Press Any Key! :-)

My Monday was lost.  Don't know where it went and as you can see--I didn't even update the blog post or respond to your comments from Sunday.  You may want to scroll back and check it out.  I lost myself in chores and kid dramas and the day disappeared.  Plus, still limping on broken toes which both hubby and middle daughter managed to step on over the weekend (poor unhealable toes).  Alas, I will do better on the writing today!

Our third prize was purchased by me in honor of my very first published novella which has now gone out of print and for which I now have my rights back (as of last month)!  Yay!  I'm going to try my hand and publishing it again as a self published novel (after some major rewrites and new edits, etc...)

The theme of the goodie is "card suits" as my first novella was set in Atlantic City and features a casino, gambling baddies, and money gone missing.  But for the purpose of our challenge, it will represent all the times (as authors) we must take a gamble on putting our work out there for others to see.  Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose, but we must take the gamble.

Here's a pic of the goodie and the winner is announced below (please send me your snail mail address here).

Everyone keep up the good work and stay tuned for TWO more prizes before the end of our challenge!

THE WINNER IS..............TERESA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So sorry your toes are still getting stepped on. Hopefully you can put your feet up and keep them out of the way of home traffic.

Today's total word count: 1019
Progress Notes: Enter the handsome magician.

What I'm reading?
Book: Across the East River Bridge by Kate McMurray
1K Completed: Yes!
Book Note: Honestly, who hides a diary in a chaise lounge?

I totally need to learn the procrastinate about writing by cleaning method. I'm usually going the other way around and procrastinating about the dishes by writing just one more scene.

Slowly losing steam to pull of homeschooling. Science experiments are cool to work on. We played with colored water acting as the different blood types and discovered good recipients/donors. But take time to setup, do, and clean up.

Managed to create an email list so people can signup to receive my blog posts via email. And hopefully the RSS feed will automagically feed into that mail list so I don't have to do anything. We'll see in the morning after the post goes up and the email sends.

Wrote two blog posts which will post tomorrow. A short pic blog for my author blog and a longer blog for my Authors by Moonlight spot.

Children then drove me crazy for the day. Boys need to come with an off/be quiet/cleanup switch.

What I'm reading

Best Intentions [A Ghost Cat story] by Mandy M Roth

Day 23:
What I'm writing?
Today's total word count: bleh

What I'm reading?
Chapters Completed: 0

Okay, I was able to get a couple of sentences in, but that's it. Hardly worth counting, except I made the effort to write. *small pat on back* Unfortunately, by the time I was able to open my document, the rest of the family decided to become extremely needy and/or loud. Ugh. Normally, I get some writing done when the twins are at dance class, but with the recitals (yes, plural) right around the corner, life has suddenly become a lot more hectic. The girls had a rehearsal on stage today, which was at their school. I had to arrive forty-five minutes early to get a parking spot on the street, and even then, I found the last available spot. Sheesh. I’d like to know who else is parking there. Couldn’t be parents picking up their kids. That’s too early. They usually show up fifteen minutes before school lets out. I figure it must be the high school kids. Maybe there isn’t enough room for them on their side of the school. I dunno.

Anyway, I went to the library and continued editing a client’s project until the bell rang. Then, it was a mad dash to get the twins into their costumes and on stage for rehearsal. When they’re taking lessons, the parents aren’t allowed to stay in the room, so I usually find a quiet place and use those forty minutes to write. This time, I had to stay in the theater. Between the kids dancing and their music, and the chatty moms, who I didn’t want to snub, I didn’t even bother opening my laptop. *sniff, sniff*

This weekend, we have three recitals, then two rehearsal and two recitals next week, which also means I miss out on my writing time that I usually do during their tumbling lessons. Ugh. Dance is over after that, and life should get back to normal. Well, minus my extra writing time. I really cherish those dance and tumbling class moments, because those are easy times for me to write without my husband knowing. Not that I’m keeping my writing a secret from him. I just have to tread lightly so he doesn’t feel like he’s doing all the chores while I’m “having fun with my hobby”. I hate that word.

Hey, guys. Yesterday, I started a short blog series on "Why Aren't You Published". I only blog once a week right now, so the next installment won't be until Tuesday, but I thought some of you might be able to identify with my journey (which is mentioned in the post). Take a look: http://lynnettelabelle.com/blog/why-arent-you-published-part-1/

@Aidee~

Rarely get to put my feet up but if I could squeeze it into a combat boot I might be in business! :-) Hey your method of writing one more scene rather than cleaning is a great one. As the quote says, "Women with clean houses rarely have finished books." So true! P.S. Bought a copy of your Dreamspinner anthology for my Kindle. Woot!

@Barbara~

Great word count! Hope you do carry on with the challenge after the official end date. That would be wonderful.

@Beth~

If only they came with that switch for all children. But, alas, my children even talk (and argue) in their sleep. I kid you not!

@Teresa~

You are welcome and I'll try to get that out to you by week's end. Maybe you can use for your hot tea instead? Thumbs up on the word count. And thanks for the "toe" well wishes.

@Cynthia~

Yay on the writing! Glad to see you're up and at 'em this week!

@Lynnette~

I'll see your "bleh" and raise you an "ugh"! ;-) And it is NOT a hobby. It is your dream and you can do it. You'll find the time somewhere. Can you distract your kids with shiny objects or television or gummy bears? No? Just me? Re: Your blog--found it, read it, commented. :-)

Thanks for stopping by my blog, Kerri. I really appreciate your support and that you took the time to pop over. I know how busy you are, so that really means a lot.

You know how it is with kids. They're quiet as mice until you get on the phone. Then, they're fighting like maniacs, running around and screaming like the house is on fire, or they DESPERATELY need you for something. Well, the same thing happens when I try to write when they’re home.

What made last night worse was that the dance rehearsal took longer than their classes normally do, and they had extra math homework. I used to be a teacher, and I somehow was put in charge of their homework ever since they started school. I usually don't mind, but last night was nuts. They had a math page to fill out, and the teacher wants the parents to practice math facts with them for TEN minutes a night. That's TWENTY minutes for me—twins: double everything—and a waste of time, because they know their facts. They're top of the class. PLUS, they had a test to study for. I can't believe they have to memorize producers, consumers, income, interest and the like when they're only in second grade. Sheesh.

Okay. Enough venting. Time to get back to work. LOL

It was my pleasure to stop by! And I totally have the same issues with the kids. Getting on the phone must send out some kind of bat signal to the kids. I swear! Hugs.
