Once upon a time in an enchanted land of warm, lush summers and cold, white winters, there lived a little girl. Like all other little girls in the land, she dreamed of being a princess. But as she grew older, she came to realize those were dreams of a child. While all the other girls in the land were playing with dolls, jumping rope and riding their bikes, our girl was sitting under a huge shade tree with a notebook and pen in her hand, writing tales of other enchanted lands that existed only in her mind.

As she grew into a young woman her writing was kept from her friends. She would die the death of a thousand screams if anyone were to read the secrets of her heart. When she matured she met a man and fell deeply in love with him. She married the man and had a wonderful son, and set her writing aside, leaving it behind and focusing rather on her family and raising her child. She spent her days wiping away her son’s tears and bandaging skinned knees. She locked her passion for writing deep within herself, closing that door and never looking back. She was taxi Mom, going to swim meets and basketball games, rushing to get dinner, working full-time, and tending to her home. Time was a commodity that was dear and she devoted all she had to her family.

But as it happens in all our lives, time passed and her son grew to be a man who no longer needed her loving care. He married and started a family of his own. Ah, happily ever after. Yes, but what became of the girl of our story? She lived a disenchanted existence, struggling to find her place, unhappy with her job and seeking the right path for her life. She knew there had to be a better way. She was unhappy and knew she wanted to do something different, but what?

Then one day a little knock came from behind that door deep within her that she had locked all those many years ago, and she unlocked it once again. Now she sits under that huge shade tree with a notebook laptop and writes tales of romance in enchanted lands and times gone by.

Who is this girl, you ask. Why, it’s me. I have been writing as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until 2009 that I decided to try writing a novel. Since that time, I have written and have had two published with a third set to release over the summer.

My current release, According to Legend, is a time-travel romance. The idea for this book came to me in a dream. Let me tell you a little about this book.

A Note from the Book Boost:  I love your tale and congrats on your happy ending!  Please do tell us more.

Blurb:

According to Legend, when the spirit of the Tribal Princess is born again and she holds the enchanted stone in her hand, the lovers will be reunited . . . even through time.

Pam Hastings, an advertising agent, lives a boring life until she comes into possession of an enchanted dream catcher, which through her dreams, draws her back in time and into the arms of the handsome Warrior Chief, Moheeladeck.

Pam discovers the stones entwined within the dream catcher hold special powers and are also the key to a secret cave, rumored to contain untold riches. When Pam is followed and her house broken into she realizes she needs protection. That is when she meets the handsome and charming dog breeder, David Conner, who gives her Half-Breed. But Half-Breed is no ordinary dog, and has secrets of his own.

With the village burning and the tribe under attack, Moheeladeck is torn between his duty to protect his tribe in his time and his desire to protect the woman he loves in hers. David is torn between his love for the same woman and the destiny he was born to fulfill . . . her destruction. Pam finds herself caught in a love triangle between these two men; a love triangle that spans into both realms of time.

With rivals in both the past and present pursuing her to control the power of the stones and the treasures in the cave, who is really behind it all? Who can she trust? With two warriors who profess their love for her, who will capture her heart? We find out only in her dreams.

Excerpt:

"Do you happen to remember the names of the tribal Chief and his Princess?” I asked.

Mrs. Warren reluctantly handed the dream catcher back to me. Her expression softened and became melancholy as she smiled, a sweet smile as if she were a million miles away remembering another time. “Ah,” she said. “One of my fondest childhood memories.” Her unfocused gaze stared somewhere over my left shoulder. “Chief Running Wolf, which in the Aloscotay dialect is, Moheeladeck,” she said as she closed my fingers around the artifact in my hand.

The instant my fingers closed around the catcher, its magic enticed me toward it—toward him.

Takshawee . . . come to me. The deep timber of his voice, a whisper in my mind. My head spun and fog swirled as I felt drawn. I tightened my grip on the catcher. It’s luring me to him. My breathing quickened as its magic beckoned me. I attempted to deny its pull. Try to focus on what Mrs. Warren is saying. The old woman’s voice sounded so far away.

“His love was called Princess Loving Doe, which in Aloscotay is  . . .” She stared into my amber eyes as her voice trailed off to a hoarse whisper. “Takshawee.”

Takshawee . . . I am waiting for you. My Warrior’s whisper swirled through my mind, tugging at my very soul.

Unable to resist his call, I collapsed.

Thank you Lauren and Karen. I really appreciate your stopping by and leaving a comment. It's fun to write blog articles, but sometimes if's hard to make them different. I thought making it a "once upon a time" type of thing gave it a different twist. If you get the opportunity to read Legend, I hope you enjoy it, and good luck in the contest.

Hey Gerri,
I'm glad your dream came true. I'm looking forward to finding your book (even if I don't win) and reading it!
I do have a question, though. Are you are traditional published author or an indie-published author?
Also, do you does the feeling of completing a chapter with a good ending; feel as good as finishing a book and being able to say: "I totally rocked this story"?

Hi Jordan,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I am a traditionally published author with a small press. My books come out first in e-book form and then about 10 months later they come out in print. The answer to your second question is No. I like to end my chapters with a hook which moves both me and the reader on to the next chapter. Let me tell you, when I typed the words "The End" on my first book, I cried.

@Gerri,
Huh, I thought that was just me!
I finally got over it though... now I just cry when my protagonist gets a broken heart. :P

I also cried when I got the cover art for my first release. I knew I had written the book, but to actually see my name in print was something.

Hi Debby,
Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. I have always loved dream catchers and actually own quite a few. I have also always been interested in Native American history so I was thrilled to write According to Legend. If you have the opportunity to read it, I hope you love it as much as I loved writing it.

Loved the blog, Gerri!!! I too share a passion for dream catchers, :) My question is do you have a dream catcher windchime?

Gerri Brousseau said...

Hi J.J.
Yes I sure do have a dream catcher, actually I have several. I also have wind chimes. I have been fascinated with Native American legend and after the dream, Legend was born.
